You may like the Columbia Silver Ridge Stretch S/S Shirt. It offers sun protection; transfers moisture; and is casual enough to wear hiking, but nice enough to wear around town.

Since the 14 F night I have used the Eureka Kaycee 0 F bag two more nights. Both nights were on hikes on some local trails I frequently enjoy. Unfortunately, (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it…) neither night was as cold as the previous 14 F night so I still have not tested the bag down to its lowest rating. However, it was cold enough that a good quality sleeping bag was a must for a good nights sleep. The low on the late January night was 26 F and just recently on February 16th it got down to 23 F . I recently got a Droid Eris through Verizon and love it. I’ve had it about about a month and it does everything in one platform. Its a GPS, Map, Geocaching, hiking, workout tracker, mp3 player and picture/video machine!
I started a discussion on our forums and listed the apps I like/Use the most for the outdoors.

Let me know what you think!!

I have been using these socks as my primary running socks for three months. While they look a bit strange and un-sock-like, the Thorlo Experia Wool/Silk Socks have worked like little slices of heaven.

The end of my
time reporting on the Chaco Z1/Unaweep Sandals is here, but it marks what appears to be the beginning of a love affair with these sandals. Over the past three months the Chaco Z1 sandals have really redefined what I think of as a serious outdoor sandal and how they can be used. Read the rest here….

It’s hard to put in words just how much I am enjoying the Tilley Fedora. And I’m not just saying that! I just know that it is excellent for cold weather, in fact, I’ve had to remove it a few times because I was getting to warm wearing it. It also works great in the rain and snow as I’ve worn it on several hikes when others hiking with me got their head/hair wet while mine remained dry (well except for my own sweat). I have the opportunity to use and review a high performance sock from Swiftwick LLC. Having personally been in the man-made fiber business for over 20 years, this product will be a delight to review and use.

Many moons ago, I first tried out the i360 headband, which is designed to hold your iPod in the band itself so you don’t have wires dangling all around. I loved it then, but, given that I overheat like its my job, I swore that it would be better in the winter. Well, in case you hadn’t noticed, it’s winter.

How has it faired? Keep reading to find out more!

Looking for a way to get outdoors in the winter cold? How about grabbing a pair of snowshoes! There are countless choices to decide from when looking for snowshoes so let me tell you about my experiences so far with Crescent Moon’s Gold Series 10. I took these snowshoes up to Idaho last weekend on a 7 mile trip up Bloomington Canyon near Bear Lake. I was surprised to see about 5 to 6 feet of snow on the ground up there so I was certainly excited about breaking out these snowshoes in the deep stuff.

I am typically not the biggest fan of down jackets since I tend to feel, well, big in them. I’m being honest here. It generally just doesn’t work for me at all. And it never seems to keep me warm.
But Canada Goose has converted me. Seriously. How have I been going so long without their Camp Down Jacket?

From the first day I received my copy of “Travels to the Edge” by Art Wolfe, I have been absolutely blown away. The images are incredible. The “behind the scenes” details of each photo is so informative. But, as a photography teacher, I wondered what my high school students would have to say. So I have brought it in to my classroom and let the kids drool over it. And they really have been inspired by it all. I dare say Wolfe has created so many future world travelers with his photographs. After three months of using the GearPods Backcountry kit on my outdoor outings, I sat down and cleaned out my
brain. Having someone pre-pack all the things I might need on a day hike was not a concept I was comfortable with till I figured out how natural it should be. You can read more in my final installment of my GearPods review.

bigger, so I’m not even sure they are rust spots but rather some kind of stain. I know that at work I deal with some chemicals like potassium permanganate which seems like it can get on me from just looking at it…but I degress. To read the entire review along with this update click here.

Its awesome to be able to pick up an instrument and make music with it. Though some may call it noise the harmonica is an easy instrument to play. Check out the updated review of the Campfire Connection Harmonica here.
