Wearing the Stag shirt on a hike to the holler
Conditions during this first testing phase have been pretty varied and I would say the shirt has seen some pretty cool temperatures, a lot of windy weather and even a little rain. In other words, typical early spring conditions for Northeast Alabama. To read the rest of the update please click here.

him show me up! I’m trying out the Vasque Taku Hikers this year, and looking forward to reviewing them. I’m hoping they help me get a turkey too! Our weather has been cold and rainy so far this spring. I’ll be looking at how the boots do in wet conditions, along with comfort and durability. Check out the first part of my review HERE.

Benchmade 551H20 side view with clip showing
The Benchmade 551H2O Griptilian is basically a more rust resistant version of the standard 551 Griptilian. In other words, a medium sized folding pocket knife, I’ll provide more information on the blade steel further down in the report. It comes from the Benchmade Blue line of knives. In looking at the hierarchy of the knives, it looks like the Blue class is second only to the Gold class. To read the rest of the review please click here.

SteriPEN Sidewinder
It has been a little over a month, the snow is mostly gone and there are places where it is not too muddy to hike. It was time to take the Sidewinder on a field trip. As you will see I had a few surprises, most of them unexpected. After they occurred, I could understand why they happened. Something like being a Monday morning quarterback. To read more.

Is it because you are? I’ve become lost on my way to the trailhead, leaving different airports, on the way to lacrosse fields around the state, on streets with no names and mostly any time I have to drive in a city. Fumbling around with a GPS, or the maps on my phone

Side View of Premium Car Kit from magellangps.com
is a bother, and sometimes too distracting while driving. The Magellan Premium Car Kit intends to be the solution to that problem. When paired with Magellan’s RoadMate iPhone app, it has the potential to really keeps us all on the right road!

I recently received a pair of Wolverine Sierra mid-cut trail hikers for review purposes. These hikers have some very interesting features, that I’ve never seen before. Do you walk on the inside or outside of your foot? They have you covered! Need a little extra cushion? Got it! How about a firmer feel? Got it! How do they do that all in one hiker? Well, read the review and find out!

Rocket Tent
The Rocket Tent was designed by Brooks-Range Mountaineering in collaboration with Mount Everest summiter Dick Jackson and is a solid all mountain expedition tent. Brooks-Range Mountaineering is a smaller company that has been making pro-sumer level mountaineering and alpine equipment for a while and their Rocket Tent has been turning quite a few heads lately. The most defining feature of the Rocket Tent is the mylar-looking CT³ fabric developed by Cubic Tech. The special CT³ fabric is a strong and ultra-lightweight fabric that is translucent depending on the layering, is extremely compressible, and allows the 2-person Rocket Tent to weigh in at an astounding 1lb. 6oz. at its absolute minimum. If you include the summer pole set when you don’t have your trekking poles and avalanche probe, the weight is still a miniscule 2lb. 4oz. The entire tent fits into a stuff sack of comparable size to some of the smallest camping mattresses on the market.

The Gerber Ultimate Multi-tool is part of Bear Grylls Survival Series tools (http://bear.gerbergear.com/). I think most of the television watching world knows who Bear Grylls is or at least has heard of his show Man vs. Wild. Gerber has teamed up with Bear to bring a line of knives and multi-tools that not only can be used in everyday situations but also in survival situations. Read my review here

Solar charging the Restore
I am a little late with my update but I was hoping to charge the Restore with the sun while on a hike or when riding my bike. Unfortunately, I still have not come up with a good way to attach the unit to my bike, and I have not been hiking with a pack yet. Plus, I have only been out a couple of hours each time for my exercise hikes and bike rides. Having said that, I have been using the Restore and it is a pretty neat devise.
