cooking pot stickers in a porcelain pan
Normally I would have tried the Primus ExpressLander as part of my initial report; however, time ran out before I was able to buy Coleman white gas for the ExpressLander. I was having mixed feelings about my first experience because I had seen other hikers using similar type stoves on the trail. It always seemed that there was this huge unexpected flare out and the look of anxiety as a large yellow flame would seem to consume their entire stove. It was a bit scary to watch. In reality, I may have been better off had I not witnessed those flare ups. To read more.

Great gear shot...actually, the Aquapac is down in the bottom of the canoe
I finally got a chance to use the Aquapac 25L Wet and Dry in its element. This was on a three day canoe trip on Black Creek in southern Mississippi. I used the bag to store my clothes for the trip which included 2 changes of swim trunks and summer weight shirts plus a long sleeve bug shirt and a pair of sweat pants. The sweat pants and long sleeve shirt were supposed to be for sleeping in each night but it was so warm that I ended up sleeping in shorts and a tee-shirt. Since it was a canoeing trip I did not get to use the pack as a backpack. Instead, it rode in my canoe three days and spent two nights under my hammock. stream crossing on MSG Trail
It’s now time to take another look at the Baja Baffin Trails to Rapids shoe. I would normally say this is a last look at the Baja shoes, but Baffin is coming out with an updated model in early fall and I may be reviewing it.

During the past month I used the NeoAir Trekker while bikepacking for one night. Yes, bikepacking; load up a backpack, ride the mountain bike into the backcountry, and camp for the night.

One of the more fun uses of the 551H20
The Benchmade 551H2O has continued to serve me well. I have continued to carry it daily, whether at work, at home or out hiking. Most duties have continued to be fairly typical knife duties but I carried it on a recent 3 day canoe trip on Black Creek in southern Mississippi and used it for some pretty heavy duty work. On the first night I used the knife for clearing a trail up to our campsite. I spent about 30 minutes clearing the trail of all briers and small saplings, and even though I did not have to cut anything major, I did want to get the trail very clear because one member of our party was on crutches. This meant cutting everything at ground level and even slightly below. To read the rest up the update along with the entire review please click here.
