December, with the holidays and the shortest daylight hours of the year, make for a very busy and hectic month.  My activities have continued to be about the same this period, with weather colder than earlier, but still warmer than normal for this time of year.  I continue to wear the Keen Erickson boots almost daily.  To read more.

Danielle Denton

The snow is here and with snow comes some pretty awesome activities, one of those being snowshoeing and I can’t wait to try out these amazing Elektra 11 snowshoes by Atlas as soon as I can.  Upon first inspection they look like they will perform very well and they have some really great features.  Everything seems to be put together well and built to sustain long term use. They have an awesome color scheme and are built of high quality materials.   The Atlas Snow-Shoe Company is always looking to improve their technologies in order to provide the highest degree of performance in every snowshoe they create.  I can’t wait to try them out and see how well all the wonderful features hold up.

Sierra Designs Savage Jacket Update

December 17, 2011

Author taking a break after a steep climb

I have been wearing the Savage jacket quite a bit over the past couple of months.  Temperatures have been all over the place, from a cool 28 F to a rather warm 60 F.  Anything warmer than that and I didn’t need the jacket.  I also wore it during several rain showers and even during a couple of brief snow events.  I wore it mostly when either day hiking or riding my mountain bike but also wore it on a long recumbent ride and a couple of shorter road rides.  I have worn it under a hydration pack (Geigerrig Rig 1200) most of the time.  I have worn it over just a t-shirt and over a t-shirt and thick winter shirt. Last Look at the Happy Girl Skirt

December 15, 2011

Danielle Denton

The Happy Girl Skirt has been so amazing to run in and is my number one choice of running gear right now.  It fits so well and really holds up to excessive use.  A lot of miles have been run in this skirt and I have never been disappointed.  I have run a few races in it and have mainly run in the Ogden area and now the Draper area of Utah.  It has held up great in this environment and I love that every time I put it on it fits perfectly.

All Good Goop……A Continued Look

December 15, 2011

Danielle Denton

I have been using my three products from Elemental Herbs (All Good Lips, All Good Goop, and Herbal Cool) on all my outings this summer and they have proved to be wonderful.  I rode in a 60 mile bike race and I used all three products on the course.  The All Good Lips balm proved extremely helpful with the hot sun and wind on my lips to keep them moist and unburned.  The Herbal Cool was great for when we stopped at the rest station to give my muscles some relief and then continue on my way.  I used it on my calves a lot to relieve the soreness I felt both during and after the race.  My cousin scraped her leg pretty badly when she took a fall off her bike.  The All Good Goop was great to put right on the wounds because they weren’t too deep.

MSR Pocket Rocket Final Update

December 10, 2011

MSR Pocket Rocket coyI kept thinking I would get a chance to do an extended backpacking trip before finalizing this review but life conspired against me. As such, I will just go with what I have.  I do want to say that the MSR Pocket Rocket has meet all my expectations.  It is a great little stove.  Add the fact that it is one of the most affordable stoves on the market and you have a winner.  To read the rest of this update along with the entire review please click here.

Author wearing the Rigg 1200 over a jacket

I have continued to use the Rigg 1200 on a pretty regular basis and have not found anything new to report other than to say that it still works great.  I have used it mostly on my weekend bike rides anywhere form 8 to 12 miles and lasting anywhere from two to four hours.   I also used it for several more day hikes of around 4 miles that usually lasted a couple of hours .  I used it recently on a 12 mile mountain bike ride.  The route went around Blackwell Swamp in the Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge.  To read all about how it went (including a gator sighting…LOL) please see the rest of the update here.
