Lowa Innox Ice GTX Mid hiking boots

A great month for testing the Lowa Innox Ice GTX Mid hiking boots. It was the boots against the terrain and they won every time. In addition to weekly 2 hour hikes at Harold Parker forest, walks to the senior center, and walks to my shopping center, the boots got a workout at my gym, going up and down stairs, and using a ladder.  To read more please click here.

Yaktrax Run

The name Yaktrax

The company was named after the sure footed Tibetan Yak. The design used was inspired by the observations of a Sherpa striding across snow and icy surfaces in the Himalayas.

Description

The Run consists of the traction part and 2 fabric straps to prevent the Run from detaching while in use. The toe strap is adjustable and ties in with the performance strap which is in the transverse direction of the shoe. The traction for the ball of the foot is 6 carbide spikes. There are also 12 smaller covered spikes on the inside. The heel consists a diamond pattern of 1.4 mm steel coils. There is reflective material on the removable toe strap and the “Y” label on the heel.  To read more please click here.

GSI Outdoors Javamill

The GSI Outdoors Javamill is a hand operated coffee grinder. It is compact when in transit mode. The see-through materials allow for viewing most of the parts. The lightweight Javamill takes up a small amount of space. It fits in my hand and is easy to store in a pack.  To read more please click here.

Oboz Scapegoat Mid hiking boots

The weather during this period was hot and humid with negligible rain. The lawns appear lifeless and the few wild berries are small, lacking taste. Daylight temperatures hovered in the 80’s and 90’s with a few degrees lower at night. My activities during this period continued to be the same but at a slower pace. I continued to wear the Oboz Scapegoat Mid hiking boots every day during this period.

I hiked another 4 times with my Wednesday hiking group on these 2-hour hikes. I am sweating more. The trails are rough and despite the added moisture from sweating I did not experience and adverse effects of blisters or abrasion to my feet. I walked to the senior center several times making a 3-4 mile round trip depending on the route and number of side excursions. I walked to Silver Lake a few times a week, sometimes seeking relief from the heat.  To read more please click here.
