One of the best parts of any outdoors trip for me is the food. It has been a long journey for me, but a few years ago I finally realized that food did not have to be a 20 minute waste of time. Learning to slow down on the trail and at a meal were lessons that were difficult for me to comprehend, but I eventually did.
When I finally decided to take the time to enjoy my meals I realized that filling food was not the only kind. Apparently it could taste and smell good and be pleasing to my palate as well. This led me to a new path away from instant noodles, oatmeal, and trail mix toward prepackaged meals.
My current list of folks who I have no problem purchasing food from is short;
Enertia Trail Food
Packit Gourmet
While these folks make great prepackaged and easy to use food, I have had the Freezer Bag Cooking: Trail Food Made Simple cook book tucked away with markers in it for a couple of years. After revisiting the Freezer Bag Cooking site which has grown into the Trail Cooking website, I decided to come up with a new plan of attack on food.
I have my favorite prepackaged meals and I will cover them at some point, but what I want to dedicate myself to at this point is trying the Freezerbag cooking recipes. My goal here is simple. Once a week or every other week I will attempt to make, modify, or destroy a recipe from this cookbook or recreate something that I already purchase prepackaged. I am not here to give away all the secrets, but to begin a journey that should have started a long time ago.
Consider this a trip into the unknown and I am either to walk away in disgust or discover that I can create tasty trail food for myself.
So stick around and what I manage to cook up. I promise to take at least on bite of everything I make.
