I saw a little bit of everything at Day 3 of the Outdoor Retailer Show. Read on for my thoughts.
There were a plethora of inflatable ground hammocks, basically large sacks that are inflated by scooping air into them, but only UST Brands had a chair – the Sloth Sack pictured below. It was very comfortable to sit in!
Mazama Designs has a new type of hydration reservoir. Their reservoir features a click top closure instead of the traditional screw cap or sliding mechanism. It looks like it will make opening and filling the reservoir very easy.
Keeping on the hydration theme, there seems to be a ton of new scoop and go style of water bottles with built in filtration. Katadyn has entered this category by partnering with Hydrapak to develop the Be Free, a squishable bottle with a built in filter. The user just scoops from any water source and then screws in the Katadyn filter and drinks on the go. I think this is a cool product and would be great for long distance hikers or trail runners who want to minimize the amount of water they are carrying.
Slumberjack has a new tent the Daybreak 2 that has an innovative pole design to maximize living space and still maintain a light weight.
I hope you enjoyed a little taste of what I saw at the Outdoor Retailer Show – there were many more exciting new products. It looks like next summer will be an exciting time in the outdoor industry.
