Adidas Women's Marathoner II Cap

I am not a hat person. But, then again, I’m not a runner. And guess what? For the past week, I’ve been wearing a hat AND running. What the heck is wrong with me?

Well, beyond the whole fact that I’m running (those who know me can now lift your jaws off the floor), I got this awesome new hat from Adidas that doesn’t make me roast like an egg on the highway in the desert. The biggest reason is because it features ventilated ClimaCool material that ensures you’ll be as cool as you can be while keeping the sun out of your eyes. According to Adidas, Climacool is “a combination of performance fabrics, open mesh and ventilation channels keep cool air flowing in and heat and sweat flowing out.” Normally I am hesitant to believe that such things work, but I can definitely vouch for it now. I am typically the person that overheats like it’s my job. I could beat a tomato in a “how red is your face” contest. So, needless to say, hats and I are generally confined to the winter months and even then I tend to get too hot. The Marathoner is the only hat that I’ve been able to wear comfortable as I’m pounding the pavement without dying of heat. One of my favorite features about it is the band around the inside of the hat. Most hats tend to have really stiff bands that, after you wear them one time, get so gross that putting it on your head make you squirm. But the band in the Marathoner is a soft, stretchy material that wicks away the moisture so quickly that I don’t even notice it. It doesn’t cut in to my head and leave me feeling like my halo was stuck around my skull.

On top of that, I tend to never fit in to any hat that is deemed as “one size fits all” for women. Truth be told, I had a bigger head than my grandmother when I was just 3 years old. So I have a big head. But the velcro adjustment band in the back easily enables me to customize the fit, even when I’m in mid stride. The prebent brim also means that it gracefully blocks out as much sun as possible from my eyes without completely blocking my vision. The Marathoner also features the typical three Adidas bars on the front brim, but they are reflective, which helps to make my time on the road safer. Along the same lines as reflective material, that leads me to my only suggestion for Adidas when it comes to the Marathoner. If I were them, I would add some sort of reflective material to the back of the hat. From a safety stand point, I would like cars from both directions to be able to see me and know to give the other cars room to move around me. Arguably, if it is that dark, I should be wearing more than just my hat, but it would be a nice addition.

That’s about it for now on the Adidas Women’s Marathoner II. I’m going to be running my very first 5K road race in just 2 weeks here in the great state of Maine, so be on the look out for my further insite into the hat as my training progresses. Summer is coming, so I’m sure it’s going to get quite the workout!
