It has been a few weeks since I first gave the Zeal Orbs a test drive while running. If you remember, I was impressed then by the high quality ZB13s and how they cut the glare no matter what the conditions and kept the bugs out of my eyes. I loved being able to walk inside and outside without having to take them on or off like I had to with so many other pairs of sunglasses in the past. But that was all at the beginning of the summer before the heat, sun, and humidity level increased. And I was really interested in how durable they were in the great outdoors.
Now that I have been wearing them religously for a couple weeks, to put it bluntly, my love of them has only increased. Over the past week, I have worn them during the high heat and bright sun that we have been experiencing while I was hiking in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. I was able to put on the Orbs as soon as I hit the trail and leave them on the entire day. I could see with the brightest sun shining in my face above treeline. But, more noteable, I was able to see every rock and root in the shadows. It was intense! During my last hike, I brought my young sister along to conquer her first big peak. She was wearing her normal sunglasses and was doing what I used to. Glasses on. Glasses off. Glasses on…. I could tell it was annoying. But I was able to leave mine on the entire time. As I said a couple weeks ago, I still have no idea how they do it, but the ZB13s lenses are absolutely incredible. Their technology in mindblowing!
Although I certainly approach every piece of gear wanting to know how well it would hold up to the abuse of daily life, I never test them as well as I did the Zeal Orbs. Needless to say, my “testing” was not intentional. I was on vacation in Bar Harbor, Maine, enjoying the perfect weather while in town. One thing led to another, I tripped, and I fell flat on my face on the sidewalk. I added several new scars to my knees and even to my face. Given how much I love the Orbs, I figured that they would be scratched up and unuseable since they hit the pavement, too. My husband even thought the same thing. Based on my wounds, the Orbs must be pretty beat up. After all, they hit the pavement hard enough that the nose pad actually was the cause of a wound on my nose.
And the Zeal Orbs proved me wrong again! First with the shadows. Now with their sheer durability. I’ve been examining the Orbs really hard since my accident and you can’t even tell that they’ve been forced in to the sidewalk in a fall! The only marks that I’ve been able to find, beyond the skin I left on the nose pad, are two tiny dots on the frame by my nose. It’s so crazy! There is absolutely no scratch to the lens at all. Just two tiny little dots on the frame. I’m obviously thrilled beyond measure that I’ve been able to enjoy my Orbs even after being so beat up. Now if only my body was as durable as these sunglasses are!
I still have a lot of adventures planned with the Zeal Orbs, so you’ll have to stay tuned to hear my final opinions on the Orbs and see if I’m still in love with them. You know that I’ll be testing them out and giving them a run for their money!
I have been wearing the Zeal Orb sunglasses for the past week during some absolutely gorgeous weather here in Maine. When I first opened the box, the first thing that stood out to me was the awesome case that protected the glasses from the rough life they would live when off my face in the great outdoors. I was also really excited to find out that they were polarized with their ZB13 lens.
But these are for my outdoor, active sports? How the heck are these going to hold up? Are they even going to stay on my face?
Needless to say, I had a lot of questions in my mind for while reviewing the Orbs. I’ve tried wearing sunglasses before for hiking, but I’ve always been stuck taking them on or off, pushing them up my nose to keep them from falling off, or otherwise just not enjoying it.
The first thing that I noticed as soon as I put them on was the difference great quality lenses made, specifically the ZB13s that Zeal uses. WOW! I would see inside. But, when I went outside, I could see without squniting. How the heck do they do that? I honestly don’t know. But I do know that they work. Amazingly well. I’ve worn the Orbs while running, hiking, biking, driving…. in fact, I’ve pretty much worn the Orbs constantly ever since I got them. Sometimes I even go so far as to forget that I have them on at all. My first big outting with them was for my daily run. The day before I had the pleasure of using my eyes to catch every black fly known to man. It was a nightmare. But the awesome design of the Orbs meant that I never had one bug even come close to getting in my eyes. They are the perfect combination of sunglasses merged a bit with goggles in that they really protect you from everything coming at your eyes while still letting you feel like you are just wearing regular sunglasses.
The sun will only be getting stronger and stronger as summer gets closer and closer, so I know I’m going to give the Zeal Orbs quite a workout. Want to know how they handle a busy life outside? Then check back to hear more of my feedback.
