Saxx Pilot 2N1 Running Shorts Review

Saxx Pilot 2N1 Running Shorts

Saxx Pilot 2N1 Running Shorts

I was given the opportunity to review another pair of  shorts from Saxx, a company that happens to make my favorite pair of running shorts.  I own two pair of Kinetic shorts, so when I saw there was a new style out, I jumped on it.

Saxx makes great quality products.   I have been running almost exclusively in the Kinetic 2N1 shorts for the past year.  They have a new style called Pilot 2N1.  With a thinner liner than the Kinetic, they are “the lightest pair of running shorts you’ve ever worn.”

After I pulled the Saxx Pilot’s out of the mailbox, I could barely wait to open them. Pulling them out of the envelope, they felt incredible.  They were very soft and felt like a good quality pair of running shorts.  I tried them on immediately and they felt great.  The outer material is a 52/48 nylon polyester blend with the line being compiled mostly of nylon with some polyester and spandex – pretty typical for running shorts with a liner.

One of the main features from Saxx that sets them apart is their patented Ball Park Pouch which keeps everything in place for friction free support.   They pride themselves for keeping seams and stitching away from your skin so you don’t have chafing or irritation while running.

The Pilot’s have one zippered pocket in the back.  I like shorts like this for back country trail running.  Not having side pockets means less chance of snagging them on thorns and bushes.  The pocket in the back is perfect for a key or a gel.

I waited until the weekend to break them in.  We made a family day out at Mammoth Cave National Park.  My wife dropped me off halfway down the Bike and Hike trail, a gravel trail that winds about 8 miles from Park City, KY to the heart of the park at the Visitor Center.  I started running and I noticed the shorts kept falling down in the back.  I kept pulling them up before I finally stopped and tied them as tight as I could pull the drawstring.  I finished my 7 mile run and caught up with my wife and daughter to enjoy a hot dog and ice cream at the Spelunker’s Cafe.

Once we got home,  I checked to see if they were the same size as my Kinetic shorts and they were.  I believe the liner must not be the same length as the Kinetic shorts.  I will be reaching out to Saxx to ask about inseam / liner issue.  I also plan on running in these again this week to see if I have different results.    Stay tuned for another review soon!
