Canada Goose Resolute Parka

One of the jackets I will be testing this winter is the Canada Goose Resolute Parka.  It is described on their website as “A super cold-weather, thigh-length parka with a removable coyote fur ruff developed for industrial or commercial work in cold regions.”  The jacket’s appearance certainly looks built for industrial or commercial work, but I think it can function well in outdoors through hiking and camping, or at least that’s my plan.

The Resolute Parka is feature rich; starting with a deep tunnel hood, lined with coyote fur and fleece, wire bracing to shape the hood opening and a nylon strap and buckle system which allows depth adjustment. The outer fabric of the jacket features Canada Goose’s Artic-Tech fabric that has a textured feel similar to a “duck cloth” used in other industrial applications but is more supple and quieter than other similar cloths.  The shell fabric also has a DWR finish.  There are 9 total outer pockets; two upper and two lower on the face of the jacket which are secured with Velcro.  The upper pockets have reflective tape across the face of the pocket.  There are also two fleece lined handwarmer pockets, behind the lower set of pockets.  On the left sleeve there is a utility pocket, and a window view identification pocket.  There is an additional window view identification pocket on the left upper chest.  On the front of the jacket there are 6 “D” rings for attaching equipment or other accessories to the jacket.  The jacket can be closed either by the front zipper or the Velcro on the draft flap that covers the zipper.

The interior of the jacket features an additional five pockets.  There is a medium sized pocket on the left side, a media pocket and large bellows pocket on the right side.  There are two mesh pockets in the kidney region, designed so that chemical warmers can be placed there for additional heat. There is a snow skirt that can be secured using Velcro tabs.  The lining of the jacket is a smooth nylon that is soft to the touch and is filled with 625 fill duck down.  The sleeves feature elastic knit cuffs that are approximately 5 inches long and are recessed into the sleeve of the jacket.

The jacket sizing is a bit larger than what is on the Canada Goose website.  I originally requested a large jacket based on the 42” to 44” chest sizing on their website, since I have been measured with a 42” chest.  However, the jacket was huge and the sleeves were way too long. I returned that jacket for a medium which fits much better.  The long length of the parka, it comes almost to my knees – I am 5’ 6” tall, will take some getting used to.  Overall the jacket appears to be very well made, tight stitches everywhere and no loose or unfinished ends.

Winter is finally upon us here in Kodiak though it cannot make up its mind yet as we are in the single digits one week with snow and then in the upper 30’s with sideways rain.  Regardless, I look forward to testing the Resolute Parka and seeing how it performs.
