One of the most important things for me during hunting season and in winter outdoor activities is keeping my hands warm and dry. This season I will be using the Columbia Wader Widgeon Waterfowl glove on my hunts and backpacking trips to see if they will do that – keep my hands warm and dry. The gloves come in two camouflage patterns; Delta Hunter Marsh and Timberwolf, and feature Columbia’s proprietary Omni-Tech Waterproof Breathable technology. The outer shell of the glove is soft to the touch and quiet which is important when stalking big game animals. The palm is a polyurethane material, but is surprisingly soft and supple and feels like a well broken in leather glove. The cuff is made of neoprene with a hook and loop fastener. The gloves also have a bit of insulation in them, but are not bulky.
Overall the gloves appear to be well constructed. I received a size large which is a bit big for me but will work fine. One of the features I like, and is usually included on most gloves, is a small buckle system that allows the gloves to be connected. I like this feature since it allows me to take the gloves off if my hands start to overheat and connect them via the buckles through a strap or zipper pull on my pack where I can have them easily accessible but out of the way.
There are several main characteristics that I will evaluate the gloves on over the next couple months here in Alaska – Warmth, Durability, Fit, and Water/Weather resistance. I hope you will check back soon to see how they perform!
