You might remember when I first started to wear the Dakine Comet Method Women’s Gloves and how in love I was with them. Let me tell you, that hasn’t changed at all. In fact, I have been wearing them almost every day and most recently took them on my first winter hike of the season. You can read more about the hike here, but here are my thoughts about them.

As for keeping my hands toasty warm, I love Dakine gloves in general, but their Women’s Comet Gloves are really perfect for activities when you don’t need a full gauntlet. I already have a pair of their Men’s Legacy snowboarding gloves, but the nice big gauntlet is a little too much for me, especially early in the season when the snow isn’t too deep. The Comet, on the other hand, has a minimal cuff with a velcro closure to permit a tight fit. It also, like the Legacy, features a Gore-tex membrane, so you know your hands are going to stay dry while still letting them breath. The insulation in the Comet is comprised of 60 grams of high loft synthetic, which ensure the perfect amount of warmth without causing your palms to get overly sweaty during your outdoor activities. They are lined with 230 gram fleece, which is super soft and not rough at all.

The temperatures here in Maine lately have been downright frigid (below 20 degrees most days) and having gloves/mittens no matter what you are doing outside is just about mandatory. The Comet Method Gloves have been my “go to” gloves every single morning that I go out, not just when I am heading for the mountains. They do not limit my mobility as much as other, heavier gloves typically do. I have no problem wearing them while driving or holding on to my trekking poles when heading up a mountain. The GoreTex membrane means that my hands stay nice and dry, but don’t wind up getting terribly sweaty thanks to the breathability of it. They are the absolutely perfect multipurpose glove.

Now that winter is well under way, you can be sure that I’ll have many more experiences with the Dakine Comet Gloves. Be on the lookout soon for how they do when winter really hits us hard and I play rough in the snow.

I have been wearing the Dakine Comet Method Women’s Gloves for a couple weeks and I dare say that I should now be bitting my tongue. One of the first things to leap out at me is the fact that they actually fit! Although I don’t have huge hands, I always seem to have a hard time getting a pair that fits once I find gloves in the first place. But these ones fit! And, even better, I didn’t even need to get the largest size! I wound up going with size large and they fit, well, like a glove.

As I gave my new found finger warmers a good once over, the first feature that I noticed was that these beasties have Gore-Tex.  What does that mean? Well, my friend, that means that I won’t have to worry about my gloves soaking through on the trail and risking my fingers getting too cold. Although there are plenty of alternatives out there, Gore-Tex has never let me down so I have grown to trust it on the trail immensely. To help keep the yucky stuff out, the Method gloves also feature an adjustable hook and loop wrist closure. Since the gloves are designed for women, the wrist is able to be locked down small enough for our daintier wrists. That was one of my biggest problems with men’s gloves. I could never get the wrists tight enough to keep everything out. The gloves are also covered in corded nylon Flextough panels with Weathershield shell fabric to help keep them in tip top shape while keeping you warm and dry. Now I’m able to keep all of the weather out and away from my hands without any problems at all.

In terms of construction, these suckers can’t be beat. The fingers come pre-curved to make it super easy to hold on to poles, such as hiking or skiing, or to grab on to anything at all. No more bunched gloves causing you discomfort when all you want to be thinking about it how awesome it is to be outside. Last, but certainly not least, the outside also sport some very help nose wipe panels (I know, eww!) to help you keep your focus on the task at hand instead of having to stop everything to dig for a tissue.

As you can tell, I am perfectly in love with my Dakine Coment Method Women’s Gloves. But stay tuned to learn more about what kind of abuse my new loves can take. It’s going to be a fun time!
