When looking at the items on the website, this was the item that immediately caught Graces eye. When it arrived she could not wait to put it on. It fit very well and looks good on her. The material was lighter than I had expected, about the weight of a tee shirt, but looks to be well constructed with no signs of defects.
This looks like it will be good for keeping the chill off on cool days and should work for layering under other items as the winter weather arrives. She is really looking forward to wearing this to school and on hikes.
Since the initial posting Grace has worn this garment many times. She has worn it to school and around town as well as for a few family hikes. She also wore it almost continuously during our annual family trip to “Christmas in the meadow”; a weekend at a mountain camp where we participated in numerous winter camp activities including snowball fights, and sledding on an insanely steep hill. This year, while at the camp we also ventured up to the logging roads to harvest our Christmas tree. Above all she just had to wear it the first time she tried out her new skateboard. [She may not be a skateboarder yet, but she can at least look like one.]
Grace loves how the garment looks and fits. About the only trouble we have had is in finding the right conditions for wearing it. As mentioned above the material is kind of thin, making it well suited for warm and cool weather, but for cold weather it is really only suitable as a mid-layer under a warm jacket. When the temperatures have been just a little cool she has worn the garment as her outer layer. She found it comfortable, and I think she looks good in it. On cold and/or windy days she has worn it as a mid layer under a jacket or coat. During one of our day hikes she wore it under a jacket and when we were in the more exposed areas she would use the hood to protect her ears, face, and neck from the wind.
So far the garment has been easy to care for. We wash it in cold and hang it to dry. Despite a number of uses and washes, it still looks almost new.
This hoody has become a standard part of Grace’s preferred garments and I expect it will get plenty of more use for the foreseeable future.
