I have a hard time giving things up and one of them is my favorite titanium mug. I cannot even remember when I bought it, but it had to be the latest and greatest thing at the time, but over the years it has begun to bother me. There are no measuring marks on it, it is single walled and burns me all the time when full, and it is rather small, but I stick with it. When the GSI Outdoors Collapsible Fairshare Mug arrived for reviewing, I was intrigued, but torn about whether or not I could risk trying something new, when my old mug was just not worn out.
Well, lucky for everyone, I gave into my baser instincts and the GSI Outdoors Collapsible Fairshare mug showed up on my doorstep today [provided by the manufacturer for my review]. I will start off by saying that I expected a collapsible cup, not a collapsible cook pot. This thing is gianormous in size. Part of me really thought that the wrong item had arrived in the mail, but after I inspected it for awhile, I realized that this is not a mug, but a MUG. I am used to two cups of coffee on the trail each morning, each one loving made in my old cup. With this thing, I can make both at once, and finish heating water and coffee making even sooner.
Besides being big, the Collapsible Fairshare mug is pretty impressive in other ways. The material is soft and folds up nicely into a small disk. I know I am not alone in trying to find the perfect spot in my pack for my titanium mug, but something as flat as the Fairshare has to be darn easy to stick in a pocket or stuff sack without any worries.
Next up is the measuring marks. Yes, my age old issue of how to measure water on the trail has finally been solved. The Collapsible Fairshare is marked in ml increments on the inside of the mug, so now I can measure without guessing or using a sharpie marker on my mug. This feature is enough to make me do the dance of ultimate gear happiness, but I am not done.
There is still the folding handle and clear lid that need to be mentioned. Both work great. The lid easily attaches and the handle folds up depending on whether or not I need it.
At this point I am ready to go hiking. The GSI Collapsible Fairshare mug begs to be used. I can already see the possibilities that this little angel opens up for me and my trail cooking repertoire, but I still need to try it to make sure.
Check back to see just how many ways I can find to use the GSI Outdoors Fairshare Mug in the woods.
