Sunburn….
A sunburn is something that nobody wants to have especially when enjoying the great outdoors. I have had my share of sunburns and even a major sunburn to where I couldn’t stand for my clothes to even touch me. It was so bad that my skin didn’t peel…it broke off, like 2 and 3 layers at a time.

But that was back in the 80’s. Now there are products on the market that have high SPF that keep our skin protected while out in the blazing sun. A product that I am trying out right now is Sunscreen Sport by Elemental Herbs http://www.elementalherbs.com/. This new Zinc Sunscreen is just what I needed back in the day. We had sunscreen back then but not like this. It’s all organic, non greasy, chemical free and biodegradable. What more could you ask for in a sunscreen?
I had the opportunity the other day to try the Kids SPF 20 on my 5 year old son. I smeared a generous portion over his shoulders, chest, back and upper arms. It went on smooth and was a little thick. After finally working it in, I realized that I really didn’t need that much to cover the specified area. THe sun was pretty intense taht day so I was very curious to see how well it did. We were at the pool for about 2 hours and I never had to re-apply the sunscreen. Each time he came out of the water I would check to see if I needed to re-apply but the water continued to bead up on his skin, and a visual of the white (zinc) was still present. After a good bath, the sunscreen came off in the tub and there was no affects to his skin as far as breaking out from it.
In the next few weeks I will be trying out the Sport 22 and 20 as I like to play in the water and at the beach so I will get my chance to try out the Elemental Herb products myself. Stay tuned for more results.
Update Aug 5,2009….
The Summer is almost over but the sun is still burning…leterally. No mater what time of year it is the Sun is always a danger to the skin. There are days when it feels like the Sun is about 2 feet from my shoulders and then there are days when I can’t get warm enough by the suns rays. Either way, it’s cooking your skin like a pig on an open fire.
I have continued to use the Sunscreens by Elemental Herbs over the past month and a half. They have come in so handy while me and my family have played at the pool, the lake and the river. The sunscreen just goes on so smooth and my kids don’t even complain about having to put it on. There is no greasy feel after it’s rubbed in and I am relieved at knowing they are protected by the suns harmful rays. The great thing about it is we can play in the water for hours and it doesn’t come off. I check every once in a while and make sure water is still beading up on the skin and sometimes I re-apply just to make sure.
The great thing about the 20 and the 22 factor is that I still get a little bit of a tan but I don’t get burned. So for me it’s just the right factor. I will be taking the sunscreens with me for our last of the summer trip to the beach in the next week. I will try them out in the very extreme heat and high UV Ray factors of the beach.
