Kombi Base Layer (Barrierweight)….

The Kombi barrierweight base layer is made of 95% polyester and 5% spandex.  It has a Flatlock Stitch construction with great seam strength.  The seams are flat for extra comfort and the inside is fully lined with fleece.  The fleece is my favorite part of the base layer.  Everything about it, as I have researched its features, is to meet the consumer’s (my) needs.  The fabric is soft, breathable, low pill (stretch for optimum fit), anti-microbial (to reduce bacteria and odor), moisture wicking (to keep you dry), dries five times faster than cotton, wind resistant, and easy to clean (machine wash, tumble dry).  Listing can be redundant, however I think knowing everything about the products you buy is very important to get your money’s worth.  That list of awesome features most definitely appeals to me and my range of activities.  I plan to run in my base lay and do activities that exert a lot of effort and yes I will sweat….  The anti-microbial factor to reduce that sweat from “turning the friends away” is always good.  Not feeling wet as I run is very important to me and many products claim to be breathable, but aren’t so I am excited to see how well this base layer performs during a long run or intense activity.  As with anything we will see what limits it presents with future use.

It is very promising and fits great…

It has been so hot out that I haven’t been able to wear my Kombi base layer.  The moment its cool enough to take it out I will and get you updated as soon as possible…….

The Kombi Base Layer a Deeper Look…….

Good news, I have finally begun to use my Kombi Base Layer this season and it has been really great for a large variety of activities.  It is an awesome layering piece for X-Country skiing and snowshoeing and a great outside piece for running and use at the gym.  I just recently hiked to the top of Maylan’s Peak and it was such an amazing view.  My Kombi kept me warm and comfortable all the way up and back down when it usually gets a little more brisk.  I stood on the lookout spot and just breathed it all in.  It was such a beautiful view and I was thrilled to be able to stay up there for a while to take it all in and not be forced to go back down before I was ready because I was cold.  The fit is very flattering and true to size. It is a nice snug fit, but doesn’t stick to the “roles”; which, let’s face it, is a necessity for the female wearer.    The collar is a nice height so I don’t feel claustrophobic and I like that you can zip it down to cool off.  I run in it all the time and have only had to strip it twice when the sun was out.

The thing that is most important to me is the versatility of the items I buy and this base layer is so easy to use for different activities.  One thing I didn’t really like is after I washed it there was a collection of lint/material on the outside that didn’t come off very easily.  It wasn’t horrible just made it look a little shabby.  I just pulled off what I could and it didn’t look too bad.  It has a very nice soft inside layer and the wicking properties worked great and kept me mostly dry on all my outings.  I am excited to take it out more and on a longer trek to see how it holds up.  I am taking it skiing this Friday and am interested to see how it will be on the mountain.

Check back for some great pictures and more info on how it holds up over time.

One last look…..Kombi Base Layer

The Kombi barrierweight base layer has been a great piece of clothing and has served its purpose during a large variety of activities.  When I wore it skiing I was well insulated and kept nice and cozy while up on the mountain.  It fit really well all throughout the time I was reviewing it and didn’t do any shrinking, fading, or discoloring.  I wore it on many adventures and wonderful hikes.  It washes fairly well and doesn’t hold bad smells, which is important with an active clothing item.  It has really good insulation properties and does well as a middle layer in snowy conditions.  I think it is best for activities that require good insulation.  It works better as an insulator than a breathing piece for high sweat activities.  It was really good for biking, skiing, and activities that allow for airflow.  I’m happy to say it will continue to be a part of my wardrobe after this final review and enjoyed testing it and would recommend it to those who need a good insulation piece that will last.  It really did keep me warm when it counted and that was very important for me to be able to enjoy my activities fully.  Especially when spending a ton of money on ski passes…. Nobody likes to be uncomfortable in the clothing they are wearing while trying to have a pleasurable experience in the outdoors.  I hope these reviews helped you in making a good decision towards what type of clothing to purchase.
