American Trails Sleeping Bags

July 12, 2009

Along with the tent I also received a few sleeping bags. These bags are the American Trails series, commonly found in stores like Cabelas.

I received the following:

2- Cascade III’s, comfort zone rated 40-45 degrees (made in Haleyville, AL).

1 -Cascade V, Oversized version of the Cascade bag ( 39 x 80″), comfort zone rated 40-45 degrees (made in Haleyville, AL).

2-Colorado’s, comfort zone rated 30-35 degrees (made in Haleyville, AL).

1-Youth Urban Camo mummy bag, comfort zone rated 20 degrees.

The comfort zones are very accurate for these bags! I have used them in temps down to the low 40′s F and been very comfortable in them! Everyone slept well because they were so comfortable.

My 7 year old loves her Youth Urban Camo bag. Even when we arent camping, she sleeps in it almost every night. My oldest son is over 6 ft 2 inches tall and uses the oversized bag. He is excited to have a bag long enough for him to stretch out in. It has kept him warm down to the low 40′s F.

The Cascade III  bags are made from a synthetic shell and liner. They are green on the outside and grey on the inside.

The Colorado bags are blue on the outside and have a cotton flannel liner on the inside. My wife likes these bags because with the flannel liner they are not as cold to climb into as the synthetic bags.

The oversized Cascade V bag is made for taller people like my 6 ft 2 in tall son. It is also synthetic inside and out. The picture below shows a regular bag laying on top of the oversized bag.

The youth urban camo mummy bag is sized for smaller kids like my 7 year old girl. Its color is urban pink and is mummy shaped were as the other bags are all rectangular. Ali, my 7 year old says she likes everything about it, its warm and comfortable and she likes the pink camo. She has loads of fun camping out in it.

The coolest thing about the Cascade and Colorado bags, is I can zip two together to create one large bag. I can mix and match also zipping one fleece lined bag together with one synthetic lined bag.

Here is how the bag unzips. This allows me to zip two bags together.

Another nice feature of these bags, they are all made in America!

Purchased an American Trails sleeping bag at Big 5, it has such an odor of chemicals we could not use it had to take it back. Went to get another one and everyone on the shelf had the same odor which was terrible, would probably make you sick if you slept on it.
