I recently received the Victorinox Evogrip S17 Swiss Army knife in red and black to review. This knife is about 3 and 1/4 inches long, about 3/4 of an inch wide and weighs 3 and 3/8 ounces. The outer sides are the standard gloss red like on most Swiss army knives, however the one cool thing is it has some molded recesses on each side for grip. From the web site the knife has the following gadgets.
2.5″ Locking Blade
nail file with
Lever Design Serrated-Edge Scissors
can opener with
cap lifter with
2.75″ Double-Cut Wood Saw
The blade is shaving hair sharp. If you don’t know, that’s pretty sharp. The one thing I do not like but am getting used to is the locking blade. I’ve had locking blades before that’s not a problem. When I go to depress the lever to unlock and I push the blade closed, I really have to push it hard to make it disengage its lock. I looked at another locking folder knife and it does not do that. No biggie but just with a smaller knife it gives me something to pay more attention to and I do not want to be in a hurry to close it.
It really feels heavier than 3 ounces. I contribute that to being well made and sturdy. I carry it in my pocket daily and it does not bother me. It is a little thick for a pocket knife but I’m getting used to it. I do wish it was a little bit longer than 3 inches. I don’t have big hands but I like to get a good grip on a knife.
Over all I really like it. Its sturdy and I can see using it in many situations. Check back soon for my other reports.
