IMG_20151120_194511376 The Sof Sole Plantar Fascia Women’s Orthotic Insoles are designed with maximal support and can be used with a flat, medium, or high arch. They are also indicated to be worn with any shoe type. The manufacture indicates that these insoles are a long-lasting comfortable solution for pain resulting from stress placed on the plantar fascia. Sounds good to me since I am on my feet most of the day at work and I have a history of plantar fasciitis.

Key features: A heel cup to provide motion control and stability, a portion of gel in the heel designed to relieve pain from heel spurs (which are common with plantar fasciitis) and a plantar relief bridge that is designed to provide support to painful arches. The insoles also have a ¾ length for use in casual or athletic shoes. The nylon arch plate is designed to stretch the plantar fascia and provide all-day relief.

IMG_20151120_194548668_HDR The nylon arch that can be seen on the bottom of the insoles is hard to the touch. The main body of the insole feels like a flexible, rubbery/foam type of material. The undersides of each are marked R or L to indicate which foot to use the insole with. Also on the underside the gel portion of the heel can be seen. The upper side is has a thin cloth covering with the manufacturer’s name/logo, and key features listed.

The instructions indicate to remove the existing insole or sock liner and replace with the Sof Sole insole. For best fit it is recommended to unlace the shoes entirely, place the insole, and replace with the feet inside the shoes. The care instructions are to hand wash and air dry.

I am reviewing the women’s size 6-11 as I wear a size 8 or 8.5 size shoe. I placed the insoles in a flat pair of dress shoes and right off I could see that they fit inside the shoes well. Upon placing my feet in the shoes I could feel a difference in the shoe volume and I felt more comfort. The shoe volume was not drastically different just noticeable. I wore the shoes with the insoles for about nine hours. No discomfort was felt, my feet were not tired, the insoles were not sliding inside the shoes, and I had no plantar fascia irritation. I think this is great! I cannot wait to wear the insoles more and with various shoes.

Update: December 27, 2015

Over the past month I tried the Sof Sole Orthotics with a few different types of shoes. I found that they work best in my flat or dressier shoes that do not have a removable insole. I noticed with my shoes that have a removable insole that if I leave the insole in the shoe along with the Sof Sole Orthotic there is not enough shoe volume for my foot to be comfortable. Also if I remove the insole completely my forefoot is not comfortable.

I tried the Sof Sole with the regular insole replaced in my athletic shoes with a thin foam insole. This was slightly more comfortable than removing the insole completely, however this was not optimal.

Due to the ¾ length of the Sof Sole Orthotic and the amount of volume the Sof Sole takes up in the shoe I am finding it very difficult to wear these comfortably with a shoe that needs the insole removed. I even tried to wear the Sof Sole in my hiking boots with the original insole in place. My arch was comfortable but my heels became uncomfortable after a short period of time due to the new position of my heels.

The Sof Sole Orthotics are comfortable, cradle my arch, and limit heel pain from impact. With my history of plantar fasciitis I must be mindful not to aggravate my feet and have any flare ups. So it is very important to me that an orthotic fits well, gives me the support I need, and is comfortable. I can wear the Sof Sole Orthotics all day in my dress shoes or flat shoes with no pain or discomfort. I plan on continuing to use them in my dress and flat shoes mostly because they are super comfortable and my custom orthotics do not fit in these shoes.

I have custom orthotics from my podiatrist that are full-length inserts. However, ¾ of the insert is a custom fitted piece that was corrected for my arch and the rest is foam. When I switch between my custom and the Sof Sole inserts my arch position feels corrected the same. The Sof Sole is actually more comfortable due to the foam construction and the heel gel. With the heel gel there is very limited pressure on my heels and this is good since I have heel spurs that become aggravated from my plantar fasciitis.

I only have wiped the orthotics clean with a damp cloth. However, I will hand wash them prior to my next update. Honestly they have not become very dirty, just some lint and fuzz here and there.

So far I like the comfort and arch support of the Sof Soles. I also like that I can wear these in my dressy shoes. Now I just need to find a better way for them to work in my shoes that have a removable insole.

Final Update: January 26, 2016

The Sof Sole Orthotics have been worn in my dress shoes during the past month. They have been worn for after work gatherings, personal appointments, and out on the town. I did not need an adjustment period when initially beginning to wear these orthotics and I think if is because I have been wearing some type of orthotics for many years.

The orthotics are very comfortable in my dress shoes that do not have a removable insole. The Sof Sole Orthotics are not working well in my athletic shoes or any of my shoes with a removable insole. The orthotics are decreasing the shoe volume too much and are making my shoes too tight when placed in my shoes with a removable insole.

I have wiped the orthotics clean with a damp cloth and sprayed them with a freshening spay made with essential oils and water. They have not become foul smelling. I just thought I would freshen them up a bit. I noticed that the gel in the heel attracts lint and dirt particles. This does not affect the comfort of the get or the orthotic itself. It just noticeable when I pull the orthotics out of my shoes. It is not easy to wipe the particles off the gel. It takes a little effort.

I am happy that my plantar fasciitis has not flared up when wearing these orthotics. At no time did I feel heel irritation or the radiating pain I used to experience with my plantar fasciitis. This is good since my custom orthotics do not fit in my regular shoes and now I can wear the Sof Sole Orthotics with my dress shoes. My arch feels cradled with no extra pressure and in the forefoot there is no irritation where the orthotic ends. It has a sloped design, which is comfortable.

I plan on continuing to wear the Sof Sole Orthotics in my dress shoes, as I am happy with the comfort they provide.

The insoles have a one-year warranty and a 30-day money-back guarantee. They retail for $19.99 and are available in various sizes based on shoe size.
