Looking around my gadget collection, I have many cases for my Samsung Galaxy S5. One got dirty too fast and looking awful. Another has a holster, but next to no actual protection for my phone. So I jumped at the chance to check out Urban Armor Gear’s Aero case when they offered it up for review. I was anxious to know if it would be the case that would stay on my phone long term.
When it arrived last week, my first thought was how light the package it came in was never mind the case itself. I expected the UAG Aero case to weight a bit more given how much protection it offers. Yet I was pleasantly surprised to find the case inside to be just as feature laden as UAG made it out to be. Similar cases I’ve seen on the market always seem to be remarkably heavy for what they are. But that simply was not the case with this light weight.
- Feather-light composite construction
- Armor shell and impact resistant soft core
- Over sized tactile buttons
- Easy access to touch-screen and ports
- Scratch resistant skid pads and screen surround
- Meets military drop-test standards (MIL STD 810G 516.6)
A common problem I have with cases is that they often come with screen protectors that are just about impossible to apply without air bubbles no matter how hard I try. When I noticed that the UAG Aero case came with one, I knew I was instantly going to be swayed by how easily I would be able to apply it. Rather than take my word for it, you should just watch my YouTube video below to check it and the case out.
The UAG Aero case has bumpers and grips in all of the right places. I have dropped my phone countless times already since the case arrived thanks to juggling my crazy life. And yet my phone has yet to skip a beat thanks to the Aero case. In fact, the grips on the back of the case have also helped to keep my phone from dropping during several other occasions when it otherwise would have been swept off a counter or slid off my pack.
I think my favorite part of the UAG Aero so far, however, is actually the oversized tactile buttons. Yes, I love the buttons! They are textured to make them easy to find in lower light or simply when you aren’t actually looking at your phone. Unlike some cases, they are also very easy to push, are perfectly aligned to the actual buttons on your phone, and don’t make me want to pop the case off to make my phone usable again.
With the holidays upon us, I know that many have their eyes on any number of gadgets for their friends and family. Although I reviewed the case for my Samsung Galaxy S5, you should definitely check out the UAG full line up because they offer cases for a number(many or some) of Android and Apple phones and tablets, all with a similar set of features.
