Let me be blunt. I am not a pencil thin, incredibly fit woman. I am a full figured, food loving woman. So, finding shorts that actually fit my body type and don’t make me question their durability, is pretty darn hard. I don’t know about the other ladies out there, but a lot of the “active” shorts out there seem to be made for people without hips and, assuming that you can get them on over your hips, often result in the loosest waist band known to man. I know I’m not the only shapely, active woman out there, but sometimes it feels like it!
When Mountain Khakis sent me their Snake River Shorts, I was, understandably, nervous of how exactly they would fit me. And, more pointedly, how exactly would they fair in my active lifestyle?
The first thing that leapt out at my when I unwrapped these shorts was the feel of the material. I was really expecting it to be a harsh, hard material. Afterall, just the term khakis, in combination with the outdoor aspect, often makes me think that they need to make it uncomfortable to make it durable. But Mountain Khakis definitely blew that theory out of the water. The Snake River Shorts feel so good! In all honesty, I immediately began to rub them against my face because they felt that soft. Ok, sold on the fabric.
Well, they feel great, but how the heck would they fit? Well, let me tell you, I think Mountain Khakis has one of my fellow full figured ladies on their design team. Because I could get them on and not worry about a bag waistline! It’s a miracle! According to Mountain Khakis’ own press release on the Snake River Shorts, they feature a “relaxed fit, straight leg… [and a] contemporary rise (2 fingers below the belly button). Half-moon curve on butt panel is flattering for all shapes and sizes. Full-length inseam action gusset. Fixed waistband because elastic is for sissies.” And, after putting them on, I can guarantee that they are 100% correct. At the risk of being too honest, I don’t feel like I’m a sausage link. But they also don’t make me feel like the trail slob. I can easily envision myself wearing these shorts on adventures and being able to wear them to work (I’m a high school teacher). I like having a multipurpose wardrobe, so these seem to fit (pun intended) in perfectly. One of my favorite aspects of these shorts is the longer length with a 7″ inseam, which means that they don’t ride up weird like so many other shorts I’ve tried. I don’t know about you, but I don’t like feeling like my shorts are slightly longer than a bathing suit bottom. For me, the Snake River shorts are the perfect length.
But how do their wear? As I said earlier, the material is REALLY soft, which typically means it won’t wear well at all and I’ll kill them with my live hard lifestyle. Well, that’s what I’m going to be looking at the most as I continue to wear the Mountain Khakis Snake River Shorts for Women. So make sure you come back and see what my thoughts are. I’m certainly interested to see how they deal with everything I can throw at them!
